The work of Fin

A Gathering.
An unspoken visual diary, put together from ever moving
thoughts and recollections of living and working in Egypt.
A pattern emerges when seen through a personal
fascination for the vibrancy of irregular surroundings,
transforming the Cairo market places and squares into
a kaleidoscope of shape and colour, weaving into a
seamless whole.

"My work is very painterly and expressive
applying oil to canvas thick and fast creating
an allusion of texture and movement.  I Paint
because I want to test boundaries.  Using
bold colour and instinctive mark making to
explore natural forms, the human figure, the
erotic and the ridiculous, examing the nature
of attraction and repulsion"

Insane Pride - New Work from Sue Law-Webb

Exhibition Open Night Fri 24th 7pm
Sue will be reading a selection of her poetry during the opening night.

Exhibition dates and times
Sat 25th Feb - 11am - 4pm

Mon 27th Feb - Fri 2nd March 11am- 4pm

During the exhibition  - Have your portrait sketched by Sue £5 for a charchoal drawing.
Painted portraits can be arranged.

One part of the exhibition expresses my affection for the city and it`s people. The other has several themes; electric light, the hell of an English winter, the wierdness of being a female artist in a hitherto male domain and the difficulty of putting two figures in a painting when one of them is you.

I am interested in everything and never like to repeat myself but my main sources of inspiration are literature, music, rural and urban landscape and the people and animals that live in them. Although  superficially my work is figarative, for me, brushwork, line, colour, tone and composition  is as much a part of the subject matter as the things depicted. I  try to make  my pictures beautiful as I understand it.

Heads and Portraits

The exhibition title Heads and Portraits invited local artists to submit their interpretation.
The preview starts 7pm 20th Jan
Mon 23rd  - Fri 27th 11am - 3pm

Future Art - Is YOU!- Exhibit your work

This page could be all about You!

Have your own or group exhibition.
Our gallery has 2 seperate rooms to exhibit in. We offer friendly advice on how to exhibit and curate your artwork. Our aims are to help artists to promote themselves.
"My name is Susan Law-Webb. I am a painter, printer and poet. Preparing for my first exhibition at Art Waves, I met a group of artists working there, (including Julie Gould and Julie Newbold)  who were truly idealistic and anxious to support and inspire each other with practical advice and the exchange of artistic ideas. This experience has definately pushed my work in new and fruitful directions, eg. I now work in bas-relief and 3D with found objects as well as my 2D work. Also the two Julies encouraged me to perform my poetry, for the first time in my life, at my Preview, which was attended by 40 to 50 people. It was very well received and I went on to perform a regular monthly gig in the city. I was invited to perform for 20 mins at Keele University Poetry Festival where simultaneously, I was having a 6 week Exhibition. I also took part in a group exhibition at Out of the Blue Gallery in Leek. I sold work at all these exhibitions, both paintings and poetry. Through ArtWaves I also met the owners of Art Bay Gallery where I am now a gallery artist. All this activity I owe to the intelligent support and encouragement I received at ArtWaves.I look forward to exhibiting there again and continuing this productive relationship."

‘Re-Construction`, which refers to the
‘De- Construction’ of reality and the change of ideas in Art over the past 40 years.
It suggests how the classical representation of the figure is considered out dated.
Bryn aspires to challenge this by,
‘re-constructing’ the appreciation of figurative drawing in his exhibition, displaying
anatomically correct drawings and paintings of a high artistic standard.

‘Re-Representation’, demonstrating ideas of perception and reality, commenting on
how Art can, ‘re-present’ ideas to people, to see things in a new way. This will aim to rejuvenate ideas on how the figure can be
used and its diversity, by using illustrative and more abstract pieces of work to highlight this.
